Structural Components carries out EIA inspecions (Due Diligence) on all types of tower sites for numerous clients. Structural Components' field engineers are well versed in the various aspects of these inspection type requirements.
Communication towers are continuously exposed to the elements. This exposure may cause damage to the structure, so the TIA-222G standard Section 14.0 - "Maintenance and Condition Assessment" states that:
"MAINTENANCE AND CONDITION ASSESSMENTS" SHALL BE
PERFORMED AS FOLLOWS:
- A) 3 YEAR INTERVALS FOR GUYED MASTS AND 5 YEAR
INTERVALS FRO SELF SUPPORTING STRUCTURES.
- B) AFTER SEVERE WIND AND/OR ICE STORMS OR OTHER
EXTREME CONDITIONS.
- C) SHORTER INSPECTION INTERVALS MAY BE REQUIRED
FOR CLASS III STRUCTURES AND STRUCTURES IN
COASTAL REGIONS, IN CORROSIVE ENVIRONEMNTS,
AND IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FREQUENT VANDALISM.
MAINTENANCE AND CONDITION ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES
ARE PROVIDED IN "ANNEX J".
EIA inspections performed by Structural Components does not comment on the structural adequacy of the tower structure, only its physical condition that can be reasonably ascertained by visual inspection.
EIA inspections include but are not limited to the following:
- Site information verification
- Inspection of lighting system conditions
- Inspection of site conditions
- Inspection of antenna and line conditions
- Inspection of structural members and connections
- Inspection of tower measurement, alignment and verticality
- Inspection of mounting system conditions
- Visual inspection of grounding and foundations to a depth of 1' below grade
